France : L’ancien président de l’AC Ajaccio, Alain Orsoni, abattu en Corse
Corsica is in shock. According to "Le Parisien", Alain Orsoni, former president of AC Ajaccio, was shot dead on Monday while attending his mother's funeral in the village of Vero.
Aged 71, the former manager of the Ajaccio club was reportedly fatally shot in circumstances that are still unclear.
A well-known figure in Corsican society, Alain Orsoni was also renowned for his involvement in the nationalist movement. He left his mark on the recent history of AC Ajaccio, which he managed on two occasions: first between 2008 and 2015, a period during which the club returned to the top flight of French football, and then again during the 2022-2023 season.
According to "Corse Matin," the public prosecutor in Ajaccio confirmed the opening of an investigation. The gendarmerie's research section and the judicial police were immediately dispatched to the scene to conduct initial investigations and gather evidence that could shed light on the circumstances of this tragedy.
For now, investigators are not favoring any particular lead. This murder, however, reignites concerns about violence in Corsica and has sparked strong emotions within the island's sporting and political communities.
