Future Stars League U19 – Saison 3 : 20 académies engagées pour un championnat plus relevé
The Future Stars League (FSL), a championship reserved for under-19s, is entering its third season with increased scope. This competition, initiated by the main academies and training centers in Senegal, has now established itself as a true springboard for young Senegalese football talents.
For this edition, 20 teams will participate in the championship, divided into two groups (Dakar Group: 10 academies, Thiès-Mbour-Fatick Group: 10 academies). Each team will play 19 matches (9 home, 9 away). The six best teams from each group will qualify for the playoffs.
At the end of this second phase, the four best teams will compete in the semi-finals, followed by the final which will crown the next rising star of Senegalese football. The other teams will face off in relegation playoffs to ensure a balanced level of competition.
“The FSL is a common desire of the academies and training centers to put in place a platform to offer young people challenges that allow them to progress in their training. In the 2nd season, we had 10 teams. And since everything is going well, we have gone up to 20. There are even more requests,” says Alioune Touré, administrator of the FSL.
For him, this rise in prominence responds to an urgent need for competitiveness. "It allows us to rub shoulders with the best," he says. "That's essential in training, because it's important to put yourself in the best possible conditions. We're releasing young players at 15 or 16 without them having ever played in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2. There's no point in having U16, U17, or U19 players who only play five matches a year."
A detection platform for the DTN
The Future Stars League is also establishing itself as a talent identification platform for the National Technical Directorate (DTN). According to Alioune Touré, nearly 70% of the players on the national youth teams now come from this league. "This is the case for the winners of the last WAFU A tournament in Mali. This shows that the FSL is a true platform for identifying and preparing young national teams," stated Alioune Touré.

Sinon bonne continuation
