Hervé Renard quitte officiellement le banc de la Tunisie
Hervé Renard's adventure at the helm of the Tunisian national team was as brief as it was difficult. Appointed in haste during the 2026 World Cup to replace Sabri Lamouchi after the heavy opening defeat (5-1) against Sweden, the French coach officially announced his departure from the bench of the Carthage Eagles this Saturday.
His interim spell, the shortest in the history of the Tunisian national team, ended in failure. Despite taking over mid-tournament, Hervé Renard was unable to turn things around. Tunisia lost their last two group matches against Japan and then the Netherlands, finishing their campaign with three defeats in as many games and being eliminated in the first round.
Linked to the Tunisian Federation only for the duration of the World Cup, the former coach of Saudi Arabia confirmed the end of his mission through a message published on Instagram.
“Before leaving, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Tunisian national team for allowing me to participate in the 2026 World Cup. It was an honor to wear the colors of Tunisia and to live this unforgettable experience. I wish this Tunisian team all the best for the future. (...) My adventure comes to an end,” he wrote.
Hervé Renard's departure now opens a new period of uncertainty for Tunisia, which is called upon to appoint a new coach.
Another question also arises: what will be the next destination for the French technician?
