"IL EST À MOITIÉ SÉNÉGALAIS ET À MOITIÉ MAROCAIN": POURQUOI LA FINALE DE LA CAN 2025 EST TRÈS PARTICULIÈRE POUR LA FAMILLE D'IBRAHIM MBAYE
Speaking to RMC Sport, Ibrahim Mbaye's parents expressed their "pride" in seeing their 17-year-old son play in the Africa Cup of Nations final with the Lions of Teranga this Sunday. It's a very special match for the Parisian youth player, whose father is Senegalese and mother Moroccan.
On November 15th, Ibrahim Mbaye made his debut for the national team in a prestigious friendly match against Brazil. As is often said, things move quickly in football, and just two months later, the PSG striker is preparing to experience his first Africa Cup of Nations final with Senegal.
This Sunday in Rabat, against Morocco (8 p.m.), it will be a special match for the 17-year-old player, who was born in 2008 in Trappes (Yvelines) to a Senegalese father and a Moroccan mother. "There's a real sense of pride in seeing him play in his mother's country and represent his father's country. It's fantastic for everyone! For us, it's the dream final: Senegal and Morocco are Ibrahim's two nationalities," Yasmine, the Parisian "Titi's" mother, told us on the eve of the final.
"We are all for Senegal"
"But we don't tease each other at all, we're all for Senegal! What impresses us most about him is his adaptability and maturity," she adds kindly.
Speaking to RMC Sport, Abdoulaye, Mbaye's father, also expressed his "great pride" in seeing his son shine with the Lions of Teranga. Highly visible in each of his appearances during the group stage, the winger, nurtured by Pape Thiaw, experienced immense joy by scoring in the round of 16 against Sudan (3-1).
"His blood is represented by these two nations. It's extraordinary for us. He is half Senegalese and half Moroccan. It's the dream final for the family, our country is 'Senegal-Morocco'. It's our country! But I prefer that Senegal wins (smile). Mbaye is our Senegalese family name. I hope Ibrahim will win," says Abdoulaye, amazed by his son's rapid adaptation.
"They welcomed him like a brother in Senegal. He's an affectionate boy; when you show him love, he always accepts it and knows how to be sociable with everyone. On the football pitch, he's always been mature in his play, both when he was in the youth ranks and still as an adult. That's huge for a young man his age." A talent who will celebrate his 18th birthday on January 24th and who can therefore give himself the best gift of all on Sunday.
