Iran : Sardar Azmoun absent du Mondial-2026 après une photo polémique
Iran officially unveiled its list of 26 players selected for the 2026 World Cup on Monday. This announcement comes in a relatively calm climate for Team Melli, which has long been under pressure due to the geopolitical context and persistent tensions with the United States.
For this major tournament, the Iranian national team will be able to rely on several experienced players, such as Mehdi Taremi, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Saman Ghoddos, and goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand. Ehsan Hajsafi and Saeid Ezatolahi are also part of a squad that combines experienced players with talented players from the local league.
But the biggest surprise on this list is the absence of Sardar Azmoun. The former Bayer Leverkusen and AS Roma player, who has regularly been in the spotlight in recent years, is not included in the squad.

According to several sources close to the matter, this dismissal is linked to a controversy that arose after a photo showing him alongside the Emir of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was circulated. Although quickly deleted, the photo reportedly caused significant internal tensions and heavily influenced the final decision.
