« J'ai senti une sorte de...» : Ousseynou Niang brise le silence
Senegalese international Ousseynou Niang has returned to his club, Union Saint-Gilloise, a few days after the Lions' victory at the AFCON held in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026. In a video published by his club, the winger looks back on the incident that prevented him from playing in the final against Morocco (1-0 aet).
As the warm-up began, Niang suddenly collapsed on the pitch. The player clarified that this incident was not an isolated case within the "Lions" squad:
"I felt a kind of crisis. It also happened to Krépin Diatta and Pape Matar Sarr. All three of us went to the hospital," he explained, as reported by L'Observateur.
It was far from the excitement of the field that he learned of the outcome of the competition. "I learned that I had become African champion in the hospital," he confides, sharing a moment mixing frustration and immense pride.
Now recovered and back in competition, the player mainly remembers "the team spirit, solidarity and mental strength of the Senegalese group throughout the competition" and is now focusing on the rest of his season with Union Saint-Gilloise.
