Jeu des Lions : Les critiques de Ferdinand Coly
Eleven goals scored, two conceded, and a semi-final to play this Wednesday against Egypt. On paper, Senegal is having a great AFCON 2025. However, the Lions of Teranga give the impression of playing with the handbrake on.
One of the key players from the "Generation 2002," Ferdinand Coly, made the same observation. The former Lions full-back believes Pape Thiaw's team needs to step up its game to avoid an unpleasant surprise against the Pharaohs.
"Of course. So far, the Lions have 'done the job', they reached the semi-finals, but without really letting loose. The team is capable of playing very well, but it can do better. We sometimes saw it struggling against the DRC in the first round (1-1), against Sudan (3-1) for about thirty minutes in the round of 32, and even at certain times against Mali (1-0) in the quarter-finals, when it had a numerical advantage," Ferdinand Coly told Jeune Afrique.
In the semi-final, the national team will no longer have to do any calculations. "Senegal has sometimes given me the impression of not fully unleashing its potential. Yet they have the collective and individual qualities to do so. For now, that has proven sufficient. But against an opponent of Egypt's stature, they will have to do more. It's a match that will demand great physical commitment and a lot of concentration, where they will have to avoid mistakes, because Egypt has the ability to exploit them," added the former footballer.
