JOJ Dakar-2026 : Le président de l’AMA en visite au Sénégal pour renforcer la lutte antidopage
With less than a year to go until the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), Senegal continues to build momentum in organizing this historic event on African soil.
It is with this in mind that World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) President Witold Bańka visited Dakar. The Pole met with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Khady Diène Gaye, as well as with young Senegalese athletes. For Witold Bańka, this visit goes beyond mere protocol. It underscores the strategic importance attached to Senegal's anti-doping project in the run-up to the 2026 YOG.
"Senegal is a great sporting nation, and this event will have a positive impact. But it's not just about the YOG. There will be a before and after. The real legacy is to make Senegal a pioneer in the fight against doping," he said at a press conference.
The WADA president also praised the progress already made. "There is no particular problem here. The country is already well advanced. But we can always do better. We need to increase the budget allocated to the fight against doping, increase the number of tests, and rely on experts, rather than volunteers," he recommended.
The WADA president refers to the ADEL platform, an online tool that allows athletes, coaches, journalists, and officials to learn about doping issues, obtain certificates, and access open-access content. "Athletes no longer have an excuse. They can no longer say they didn't know. The information is there, accessible to all. It's their responsibility to inform themselves," he concludes.
