Ligue 1 (J2) : Ajel de Rufisque s’impose face à l’AS Pikine (1-0)
Ajel de Rufisque secured a valuable victory (1-0) this Saturday against AS Pikine, on the occasion of the 2nd day of the Ligue 1 championship.
The match started at a rather slow pace, with both teams struggling to impose their game. Inaccurate passes and turnovers were frequent in midfield, preventing any fluid build-up play. Pikine, often troubled by Rufisque's pressing, had difficulty finding its attacking rhythm.
The deadlock wasn't broken until the 27th minute. In a seemingly innocuous play, the AS Pikine full-back lost possession near his own penalty area. Ibra Lo pounced, recovering the ball and sending in a dangerous cross. A collision between the Pikine goalkeeper and Lamine Sagna allowed the latter to tap the ball into the net and give Ajel de Rufisque the lead.
This goal woke up the visitors, who then tried to respond. Pikine created a few chances before the break, notably through runs down the wings and better ball movement, but without managing to get past the Rufisque goalkeeper.
In the second half, the pace picked up slightly. AS Pikine increased the pressure, looking to equalize with incisive dribbling and long-range efforts. But Ajel's well-organized defense held firm.
Rufisque, managing their lead, relied primarily on counter-attacks and ball retention. Play frequently stopped due to fouls, players on the ground, and time-wasting, disrupting the flow of the game.
