Ligue 1 : OM–PSG reporté en raison des intempéries

The highly anticipated "French Football Classic" between Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain will ultimately not take place this Sunday evening. Scheduled for 8:45 p.m. at the Stade Vélodrome as part of Matchday 5 of Ligue 1, the clash has been postponed by prefectural decision due to the forecast severe weather.

Placed on orange alert for "storms" and "rain-flooding," the Bouches-du-Rhône region presented too great a risk to maintain the match. At 2 p.m., Prefect Georges-François Leclerc made the decision official:

"For the sake of consistency and safety for all, the match between OM and PSG is canceled. The Professional Football League and the clubs have been informed," he said, adding that heavy rainfall could lead to significant urban runoff.

Beyond the safety of the players, it was primarily the safety of the spectators that motivated this decision. But now a new question arises: when should this duel be rescheduled?

LFP regulations stipulate that in the event of cancellation due to bad weather, the match must be replayed the following day, barring exceptional circumstances. However, this Monday, several Paris Saint Germain players are expected to attend the Ballon d'Or ceremony, where Ousmane Dembélé and Ashraf Hakimi are the big favorites. This seriously complicates the task of the authorities, who are faced with a real headache in setting a new date for this highly anticipated event.
