Ligue 1 sénégalaise - Linguère de Saint-Louis : Ablaye Sy sous pression ?
The situation is becoming increasingly worrying for Linguère in the Senegalese Ligue 1. On Sunday, the Saint-Louis club suffered another disappointing home defeat, losing to Guédiawaye FC (1-3). This fifth home loss of the season has gone down very badly with the fans.
Linguère, the first professional football club in Senegal in 2009, is currently going through a difficult period. Poor results have placed coach Ablaye Sy at the center of criticism.
Having arrived this season to succeed Amara Traoré, the former Senegalese international defender was nevertheless expected to be the man of renewal.
Upon his arrival in the old town, the manager had set clear ambitions: to establish an attractive style of play and achieve results. "This year, there will be beautiful football and results," he promised at the time. But after 18 league matches, the record remains far from expectations.
The figures illustrate the team's difficulties. Linguère is ranked 12th out of 16 teams with only 17 points out of a possible 54. The club has only three wins in 18 matches, scoring 15 goals and conceding 21. This imbalance is having a significant impact on their results.
At home, performances are also insufficient, with only 8 points taken out of a possible 27. Away from home, it's the same story, with 9 points earned in the same number of matches.
As if that wasn't enough, Linguère also suffered a disappointment by being prematurely eliminated from the Senegal Cup by Dakar Sacré-Cœur in the round of 16, a competition which was among the club's objectives at the start of the season, along with a place in the top 4 of the championship.
Faced with this situation, questions are multiplying. Is it a lack of talent in the squad, a problem with the environment, or questionable tactical choices? The debate is dividing observers and supporters.
However, the club's management had placed great trust in Ablaye Sy. The president had given him considerable autonomy, both in assembling his staff and in recruitment, preseason preparation, and team management. Several reinforcements (Moustapha Diop, Babacar Faye, Abdoulie Bah, and Abdoulaye Sylla) had even been signed during the last transfer window to improve the team's competitiveness.
Despite these resources, results are slow to come. And even though there are still twelve matchdays remaining, the way Linguère was beaten on Sunday by Guédiawaye FC does little to reassure supporters about the rest of the season.
The pressure is now intense around Ablaye Sy, whose future on the Saint-Louis bench could depend on the upcoming results.
