Ligue des champions: Opta prédit le vainqueur de cette édition

With the Champions League round of 16 kicking off this Tuesday, Opta has released its latest predictions. After receiving a relatively favorable draw, Arsenal are the favorites to succeed PSG.

What if Arsenal finally won their first Champions League title? According to Opta and its prediction tool, the Gunners are the overwhelming favorites with a 26.66% chance of lifting the trophy. Leading the Premier League, the London club will begin their knockout stage campaign with a round of 16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen (March 11 and 17). Solid since the start of the competition, the team led by William Saliba goes into these decisive matches without ever having trailed. In 62% of their league matches, Arsenal even took the lead.

Should they qualify against the German club, Mikel Arteta and his players would face the winner of the match between Sporting and Bodö/Glimt, before a potential semi-final against Barcelona, Newcastle, Atlético Madrid, or Tottenham. According to Opta, the other strong favorite is Bayern Munich (16.37%), who will play Atalanta in the round of 16 on Tuesday at 9 p.m.

Paris behind Chelsea, but ahead of Real Madrid

Defending champions PSG – facing Chelsea – are only seventh in the predictions, with a 4.32% chance of lifting the trophy on May 30 in Budapest. This puts them quite far behind Liverpool (11.36%), Manchester City (11.05%), and Barcelona (9.67%). Chelsea, PSG's opponent in the next round, appear to be a more credible winner according to Opta. Liam Rosenior's Blues have a 6.37% chance of winning another Champions League title.

Despite their 15 Champions League titles, Real Madrid find themselves quite low in Opta's projections. Eleventh in the favorites ranking, Los Blancos have only a 1.93% chance of winning, behind several teams such as Newcastle (3.64%), Sporting Lisbon (3.07%), and Atlético Madrid (2.65%).

Finally, five teams do not exceed the 1% mark: Tottenham (0.74%), Bodö/Glimt (0.65%), Atalanta (0.58%), Bayer Leverkusen (0.51%) and Galatasaray (0.43%).
