Lions du Basket : « Arrêtons de ... », le coup de gueule d’un membre du staff
In an interview with L'Observateur, Makhtar Ndiaye, advisor to the president of the Senegalese Basketball Federation and member of the last Senegalese team to win the Afrobasket in 1997, gives a generally positive assessment of the Lions' participation in the 2025 edition. Despite being eliminated in the semi-finals by Mali, Senegal left with a bronze medal and one of the youngest teams in the tournament.
According to him, the team was well prepared, united, and showed great promise for the future. However, he deplores the lack of recognition for the work accomplished by the players and staff, calling for patience and continuity to reach the top.
Regarding the criticism of the interior sector and the choices made by coach DeSagana Diop, particularly the absence of Babacar Sané, Makhtar Ndiaye defended the decisions made, pointing to the injuries of certain key pivots and the performance of other players like Ibou Dianko Badji. He encouraged Babacar Sané to work harder to earn his place in the future.
The source for the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group concludes by stating that the current team, with an average age of less than 23, has the potential to shine in the years to come, provided it stays the course and benefits from mental support adapted to the demands of the high level.
