Litige Club cyclisme de Thiès-Fédération : Le tribunal a tranché
An electoral process described as fraudulent, unilateral decisions attributed to the president, financial irregularities, with the collection of funds on a personal account instead of the federal account, delays in issuing licenses that compromised the competitions and the failure to organize the national championship, which had consequences on the ranking of cyclists at the international level.
These are the dysfunctions at the origin of the dispute between the Thiès Cycling Club and the Senegalese Cycling Federation.
During a press briefing held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Thiès Cycling Club, which emerged victorious from the battle following a court ruling, sought to shed light on the conflict for public opinion. "The court's decision is a recognition of the justice of our triumphant fight," said Mapenda Wade, former vice-president of the federation and member of the Thiès Cycling Club.
For him, "the judgment rendered by the competent court validates the grievances raised and calls into question the current governance of the federation."
For his club, "this decision represents a major victory not only for Thiès, but for all of Senegalese cycling. It is a victory for truth and transparency. Justice has been able to restore balance."
Members of the Friends of Cycling collective are now calling for "a re-establishment of sporting governance in the discipline, based on consultation, rigor and respect for the rules", and are inviting clubs and cyclists from all regions of the country to rally around the same objective: "To rebuild Senegalese cycling on solid and credible foundations"; although for the Dakar-2026 YOG, "it's a failure for Senegal".
For Mapenda Wade and his comrades, "this verdict could mark a decisive turning point in the history of national cycling, as the discipline seeks to regain its place in the African and global sporting landscape."
