Liverpool : La déclaration au lance-flammes de Mo Salah
Two weeks before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Mohamed Salah is going through a difficult period at Liverpool. The Egyptian striker, who has scored 5 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this season, has been starting a string of matches on the bench. This is an unusual situation for the Reds star, who made no secret of his frustration after the 3-3 draw against Leeds on Saturday, the third consecutive Premier League match in which he was not in the starting lineup.
The two-time African Footballer of the Year (2017 and 2018), expected to join the national team by December 15th at the latest, could still play in the matches against Inter Milan and Brighton before traveling to Egypt. But for now, the winger is struggling with this sudden demotion.
“This isn’t acceptable to me, honestly. I don’t know why this is happening to me. They’re throwing Mo under the bus, as if I’m the problem. I don’t think I’m the problem. I had a good relationship with the manager, and suddenly, it’s gone. I don’t know why,” he told TV2 Sport, visibly affected. Salah went further, expressing a feeling of profound incomprehension:
“I have the feeling that someone at the club doesn’t want me anymore. We’ll see what happens. In my mind, I just want to enjoy myself, even when I’m not playing. The game at Anfield is coming up: I’ll say hello to the fans, I’ll play if I’m given the chance, then I’ll leave for the Africa Cup of Nations… and honestly, I don’t know what will happen after that.”
