Mali : Anthony Da Silva prend les commandes des Aigles
Following the departure of Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet, the Malian Football Federation has entrusted the reins of the national team to Anthony Da Silva. The Franco-Portuguese coach will have the weighty responsibility of guiding the Eagles towards upcoming continental and international competitions.
The Malian Football Federation (Femafoot) has officially announced the appointment of Anthony Da Silva as the new national team coach. The 45-year-old Franco-Portuguese coach succeeds Belgian Tom Saintfiet, who was dismissed at the end of April after several months in charge of the Eagles.
In a statement, the Malian Football Federation (Femafoot) specified that the new head coach will be assisted by a Malian assistant coach. His mission will be to continue the development of the national team, while injecting new energy into a group considered one of the most talented on the African continent.
Holding a UEFA Pro license, Anthony Da Silva has extensive experience in European football. He has notably managed several teams in Portugal and Romania, where he held the position of head coach of the first division club Politehnica Iași.
A former defender who came through the Paris Saint-Germain youth system, he also distinguished himself playing for CFR Cluj, with whom he won several national titles in Romania. After ending his playing career in 2015, he quickly turned to coaching.
The new Eagles manager is also familiar with the realities of African football. Between 2019 and 2022, he was part of the Cameroonian national team's technical staff as a video analyst, an experience that should facilitate his adaptation to his new challenge at the helm of Mali.
