Senegal and Mali face off this Friday in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations. A derby that promises to be thrilling. To prepare for any eventuality, the Malian police have issued a message to the public to prevent any unrest.
"On the occasion of the quarter-final match of the Africa Cup of Nations between the Eagles of Mali and the Lions of Senegal, scheduled for Friday, January 9, 2026, the Director General of the National Police calls on the population to remain calm, to be civic-minded and to respect public and private property, regardless of the outcome of the match," said Youssouf Koné, the Inspector General of the Malian police.
In his press release, he warned the public that "both victory and defeat must be accepted with restraint and composure." He and his men intend to implement a security plan to maintain order and ensure smooth traffic flow.
