Match Sénégal - Pérou : Les lamentations de la presse marocaine
The friendly match against Peru on March 28 at the Stade de France will be an opportunity for Senegalese people in the diaspora to celebrate their victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite the CAF appeals committee's decision. However, this celebration is not welcomed in Morocco.
Amine Birouk, one of Morocco's renowned sports journalists, spoke out on Le360 to denounce what he called a "major procedural error." "Wanting to turn a trophy into a sentimental hostage and parade it next Friday at the Stade de France, during the Senegal-Peru friendly match, is a major procedural error. It's an institutional offside: neither VAR nor the referee will need to blow the whistle; the rules apply automatically. It's a misinterpretation bordering on amateurism," he wrote.
The journalist, who also presents himself as a defender of Morocco to the Spanish press, criticized the Senegalese state following its statement calling for an independent international investigation into suspected corruption at CAF. "The Senegalese government's statement only served to legitimize this prevailing irrationality, transforming a clear rule of law into a Kafkaesque labyrinth where the aim is to condemn those who have simply respected the regulations," he said.
At the Stade de France on Saturday, more than 50,000 people are expected in the stands to watch the Lions' first match since their 1-0 victory in Morocco. Despite the CAF's provisional withdrawal of the title (pending the CAS verdict), the Senegalese intend to celebrate their 2025 AFCON triumph today, believing that no administrative decision can take away their victory and the emotions they earned on the pitch.
