Mauvais résultats de Nice : deux joueurs africains agressés par des supporters
OGC Nice is going through a deep crisis where fan pressure has reached a worrying level. On Sunday, following the defeat suffered in Lorient (1-3), their sixth in a row in all competitions, tensions exploded between some supporters and several Nice players.
In this tense atmosphere, Terem Moffi and Jérémie Boga, two African internationals, were physically assaulted by angry fans.
Exasperated by a string of poor results, around 400 supporters gathered outside the club's training center to express their frustration. The situation quickly escalated: upon disembarking from the team bus, several players were insulted, heckled, and even assaulted, a symbol of the unbearable pressure on the squad.
At the heart of the tensions, Jérémie Boga (28 years old) and Terem Moffi (26 years old) were the main targets. Boga was accused of a lack of commitment and of distributing tickets to Marseille supporters for the last match against OM. Moffi was criticized for his lack of effectiveness and for exchanging a few smiles with his former president, Loïc Féry, in Brittany at a time when his club was in crisis.
These are trivial motives compared to the violence suffered, which above all highlight the rise of uncontrolled frustration in the Nice camp.
Shocked by the attack, the two players filed a complaint against persons unknown the very next day. According to Nice-Matin, they no longer wish to play for OGC Nice. The psychological pressure and violence they suffered have left their mark. Nigerian international Terem Moffi is on sick leave until Sunday. Ivorian international Jérémie Boga has been given a medical certificate for at least five days of incapacity for work.
They will miss training this week and are expected to leave the club during the winter transfer window. It seems difficult to imagine OGC Nice keeping them in this volatile situation.
The situation is even affecting the staff. Faced with the escalating tension, Franck Haise, the coach, has confided his desire to resign.
The club still has to play four crucial matches against Angers, Braga, Lens and Saint-Étienne… probably without Moffi or Boga.
