The day before, he had revealed on his Instagram account that his children were victims of racism in the country.
"To those who dared to attack my children, I say this: you made a mistake. I will always fight to protect my family, and there is no person or threat that will frighten me," he declared. Saint-Maximin, formerly of Newcastle and Monaco, was not in the squad for América's final match on Saturday. His now former teammates entered the pitch with a banner reading "No to racism."
"We regret that we were unable to ensure that he could adapt."
"Thank you for everything, Club América, I love you all," reacted the 28-year-old striker, who came up through the ranks at Saint-Étienne. He did not elaborate on the situation his children are experiencing, but local media reported incidents that occurred at school. "It's a shame," lamented the club's coach, André Jardine, praising a player "who has the ability to play in any league in the world."
"Coming to Mexico City was a big change for him; there are many things that matter: his family, the food, his habits, the lifestyle. Within the group, we had no problems; we regret not having been able to make sure he could adapt."
Saint-Maximin, who has played for around ten clubs since turning professional, signed with Club América in August 2025, marking his sixth major league experience. The striker played 16 matches and scored three goals.
