Mondial-2026: Comment les Sénégalais des USA s'organisent pour remplacer le 12e Gaïndé

Faced with administrative hurdles that prevent the Senegalese national team from accessing its traditional fan groups, the diaspora in the United States is urgently organizing. Under the banner of the "Ultras Lions Rouges du DMV," Senegalese nationals from the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas braved logistical constraints to support the Lions during their first away game in Charlotte. Through their coordinator, Ben Diedhiou, they are drawing lessons from this initial trip and issuing an urgent appeal to the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) to secure access to tickets before the historic match against France.

The absence of official fan groups from Dakar, such as 12e Gaïndé, Allez Casa, or Lebbu Gui, prompted the Senegalese community in the United States to take the initiative. Ben Diedhiou, a key community figure and secretary general of the DMV Senegalese association, orchestrated the creation of the "DMV Red Lions Ultras." This group immediately approached the Senegalese ambassador and consul general to circumvent the administrative restrictions and travel limitations that were preventing many fans from attending matches.

The first major test came during the trip to Charlotte. Thanks to a network of support, the movement chartered two 55-seat buses and coordinated the flow of fellow Americans traveling by plane or car, transporting between 180 and 200 supporters from the nation's capital. The organizers contributed financially to subsidize transportation costs and guided the community in purchasing tickets.

While the trip was conducted in a spirit of discipline and camaraderie, several major problems arose on match day. Firstly, the Senegalese supporters found themselves scattered in different sections within a 72,000-seat stadium occupied by 57,000 spectators, which diminished the impact of their collective chants.

Secondly, under the pretext of a lack of prior authorization from FIFA and the US federation, security prohibited the entry of drums, banners, and traditional instruments. Finally, several fans encountered technical problems validating their electronic tickets at the stadium gates.

The clash with France: the urgent call for the 10% quota

The focus now shifts to the upcoming match against France, scheduled to take place in a stadium with a capacity of over 82,000. While the French camp is announcing a massive influx of 15,000 to 20,000 supporters, the DMV Ultras are warning that a significant logistical boost is essential for Senegal to field its "twelfth man."

Based on the competition regulations, Ben Diedhiou points out that approximately 10% of the seats are officially reserved for supporters of the participating teams at a preferential rate of around $60. The diaspora is officially requesting that the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) establish a transparent and direct ticketing mechanism for these tickets. The movement believes that 1,000 tickets should be formally allocated to this "12th Gaïndé of the Diaspora" in order to increase and consolidate the Senegalese presence in the stands.

With just ten days to go before kickoff of this crucial game, the community has issued a friendly but firm ultimatum to federal authorities, hoping for a concrete response by Tuesday, June 9, 2026. In Washington, a group of 200 fans has already mobilized and is awaiting institutional approval. Without a swift response from the authorities, hundreds of fellow citizens will be forced to watch the game from fan zones, depriving the Lions of crucial support for this historic occasion.
