Mondial 2026 : échec des Lions, Ousmane Sonko saisi
The National Assembly could examine the Lions' failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. However, if it does, the assembly would focus on the Senegalese Football Federation's (FSF) management of the campaign. The Speaker of Parliament, Ousmane Sonko, has been contacted regarding this matter.
"We plan to initiate a parliamentary audit mission [on the management of the World Cup]. The objective is to examine the causes of this poor performance of the national team," announced El Hadji Guèye, the president of the Sport and Youth commission of the National Assembly, in L'Observateur.
To become a reality, the parliamentary initiative must first be approved. "We have therefore submitted the information letter to the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko. Now, we are waiting to see if the office will validate it," the MP emphasized.
"If it goes ahead, the audit mission could have broad powers," warns L'Observateur. "Members of parliament could question FSF leaders, administrative officials, members of the technical staff, and anyone else likely to shed light on this campaign. The stated objective would not be to revisit purely sporting decisions, but to examine the management of the Senegalese delegation: use of financial resources, organization of the stay, administrative decision-making, governance, and any potential dysfunctions."
