Mondial-2026 - Le Japon change deux fois de site d'entraînement en deux jours
Japan, who arrived in Mexico this week to prepare for the World Cup, had to change training grounds twice in two days due to the poor quality of the pitches, Japanese media reported on Friday.
The "Blue Samurai" were originally supposed to use a training ground belonging to the Tigres de Monterrey, but its condition deteriorated after recent bad weather, and the team resorted to a university field, the Sports Hochi newspaper reported.
Unhappy with this replacement pitch, the Japanese national team moved again to finally train at the CF Monterrey site, according to Sports Hochi.
"It's because of the bad weather, there's nothing we can do about it. We want to ensure optimal preparation" for the World Cup, said the technical director of the Japan Football Association, Masakuni Yamamoto.
Starting Tuesday, the Japanese national team will join their American base camp in Nashville, Tennessee.
"We have been told that preparations are proceeding smoothly in Nashville," Yamamoto said.
In Group F, Japan will face the Netherlands in their first match on June 14, then Tunisia and Sweden.
