Mondial 2026 : Thierno Seydi baisse les bras
Senegal faces Iraq this Friday in Toronto, for the third and final matchday of Group I. The objective: to secure three points and hope to be among the best third-placed teams, thus qualifying for the Round of 32. Unlike some die-hard fans, Thierno Seydi doesn't believe it's possible. "Barring a miracle, I think we're eliminated," the players' agent grimaced, in comments reported by Les Échos. "At best, we'll get three points. When I think that there are eight teams that can still qualify as one of the best third-placed teams, honestly, I don't know… I'm hoping for a miracle, but I don't see it… For me, the World Cup is over."
Seydi believes the Lions had the cards in their hand to qualify for the second round without needing to do any calculations. "We have a lot of regrets because there was an opportunity to advance. When you see how the match unfolded [against Norway, a 2-3 defeat], I think we could have done better," laments the man who witnessed Senegal's second World Cup defeat last Tuesday at MetLife Stadium in New York.
