Olympique de Marseille : Habib Bèye pointe les failles défensives
Having taken over as manager of Olympique de Marseille on February 18, 2026, Habib Bèye is still struggling to solve his team's defensive problems. Just like in the defeat against Stade Brestois 29 (0-2) and the victory against Lyon (3-2) in Ligue 1, Marseille conceded two goals again against Toulouse FC (2-2, 3-4 on penalties) on Wednesday in the Coupe de France.
Speaking to the media, the Senegalese coach offered his analysis of this persistent weakness. According to him, the responsibility doesn't lie solely with the defensive line. "It's not just a question of defenders. It's primarily a problem of collective strength. It all starts higher up the pitch, with the pressure, the effort, and the ability to win second balls," he explained.
According to the former Senegalese international, these shortcomings already existed before he took office and require collective work to correct them.
He also believes that his team wasn't truly troubled by Toulouse in open play. "I don't recall any Toulouse attack that really threatened us. However, on set pieces and when the ball came back into our penalty area, we lacked aggression and presence. And that's often where matches are decided," he added.
