OM : Beye nommé, Benatia sort enfin du silence !

Habib Beye has been officially appointed as the new coach of Olympique de Marseille for a period of one and a half years. Franck McCourt and, in particular, Medhi Benatia have explained their choice.

Olympique de Marseille has found its new leader. On Wednesday, February 18, the club officially announced the appointment of Habib Beye as OM's new manager. This choice is far from insignificant, as the former right-back embodies a part of Marseille's DNA.

Club owner Frank McCourt justified the decision through official channels: "The appointment of Habib Beye, a top-level coach who also has a historical connection with OM, refocuses us on the challenges we still have to overcome between now and the end of the season." The message is clear: it's time to unite and reclaim our former glory.

Beye is no stranger to the Canebière. Arriving in 2003, the Senegalese international quickly won over the Vélodrome crowd with his commitment and leadership, eventually earning the captain's armband. Combative, demanding, and respected, he embodied the fighting spirit so beloved by the Marseille fans. His time in England, notably at Newcastle, followed by his rapid transition to coaching, further enriched his understanding of the game.

As a coach, he built a solid reputation at Red Star, whom he led to the National title in 2024 and promotion to Ligue 2, before a stint at Rennes. Everywhere, the same method: discipline, intensity, and empowerment.

Habib Beye, Medhi Benatia's choice

Director of Football Medhi Benatia spoke to clarify the club's direction: "The choice of Habib Beye (...) is fully in line with our desire to recruit a coach with the necessary leadership to take charge of a group that needs to be remobilized after a difficult period on the pitch. (...) We must quickly get back to winning ways, aim for a place on the Ligue 1 podium, and try to win the Coupe de France in order to offer the people of Marseille a trophy."

The stage is set. From the pitch of the Orange Vélodrome to the touchline, Beye returns to Marseille with a mission: to reignite the flame and bring OM back to where he believes it should be.
