"Prenez vos serviettes pour essuyer vos larmes" : Stanley Nwabali, le gardien nigérian répond avec humour aux ‘’ voleurs de serviettes’’ après la défaite du Maroc en finale de la CAN-2025
The Africa Cup of Nations ended with some rather unusual images. One such image shows Yehvann Diouf fiercely protecting Édouard Mendy's towel from Moroccan ball boys trying to steal it. Nigeria experienced a similar situation during their semi-final against Morocco (0-1).
Stanley Nwabali, the Super Eagles goalkeeper playing for Chippa United (South Africa), was the target of these curious "towel thefts." A video shared on X shows a man in a suit grabbing his white towel during a moment of inattention, before Nwabali retrieves a second towel—a black one—also stolen by a young ball boy.
Instead of losing his temper, the Nigerian goalkeeper responded with humor. In an Instagram story posted a few hours after Senegal's victory in the final (1-0 after extra time), he quipped: "You can use all my towels to wipe away your tears," accompanied by the laughter of a spectator. A relaxed and witty way to poke fun at these minor incidents, while reminding everyone that, on and off the field, fair play can go hand in hand with humor.
