ONE MMA heavyweight world champion, "Reug Reug" Oumar Kane, will ultimately not be able to defend his title against Russian Anatoly "Sladkiy" Malykhin at ONE 173: Superbon vs Noiri, scheduled for this Sunday, November 16 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo.

This rematch was one of the most anticipated fights of the evening. Last June, at ONE 169, Reug Reug caused a sensation by dethroning the previously undefeated Malykhin after an intense five-round duel that ended in a split decision victory. This historic win made Kane the first-ever African ONE world champion, extending his winning streak to five fights, while the Russian suffered the first defeat of his career (14-1).
Despite this last-minute withdrawal, ONE 173 will still have a strong card, with 17 spectacular fights in the disciplines of MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing and submission grappling, the organization emphasizes.
