Sénégal-Mali (1-0) : Les tops et les flops
Senegal emerged victorious from their quarter-final clash against Mali in a disjointed and hard-fought match. Édouard Mendy offered a clear-eyed analysis: Senegal qualified, but their performance was far from impressive. Nevertheless, several players rose to the occasion against the Malians. Here are the highs and lows.
The tops
Krépin Diatta
Another defensive masterclass from Krépin Diatta. His intervention in the 24th minute, following a mistake by Kalidou Koulibaly, prevented the Lions from opening the scoring for Mali. He was also a key player in attack, contributing to Senegal's goal. Once again, Krépin demonstrated seriousness, pragmatism, and focus.
Édouard Mendy
Despite their numerical advantage, Senegal conceded several clear chances in the second half. But Édouard Mendy, focused and determined, made two excellent saves to keep Senegal's scoreline intact.
Pathé Ciss
He could have scored two goals, including a missed one-on-one, but the Rayo Vallecano player's introduction was very positive. He was the catalyst for Senegal's attacks and then made a significant impact in winning back possession. While Mali pressed forward, his arrival in midfield brought more composure and security to the Senegalese team.
Sadio Mané
Sharp and in fine form, Sadio Mané was very active down his flank. He was excellent in creating chances, playing with his back to goal, and linking up with the opposition. A goal would have capped off his performance, but Mané was repeatedly thwarted by a solid Djigui Diarra.
The flops
Habib Diarra
After a strong performance against Sudan, Habib Diarra struggled to make an impact on Friday. Positioned further up the pitch than Pape Gueye and Gana Gueye, the midfielder was caught out in Mali's congested midfield. As a result, he made few runs between the lines, unlike his usual style, and had little influence on the Lions' play. He also received an avoidable yellow card in the second half.
Senegalese wait-and-see attitude
Playing with a one-man advantage, Senegal simply decided to stop pushing forward. Yet, the Lions had ample opportunity to seal the victory. Ultimately, their cautious approach allowed Mali back into the game, creating chances for themselves. This strategy is reminiscent of the one adopted two years ago when Senegal were leading 1-0 against a struggling Ivory Coast. This refusal to attack allowed the Elephants to equalize and eliminate the Lions.
As if the Senegalese hadn't learned from that round of 16 match which had done so much damage to Aliou Cissé and Co.

un objectif
Si c’est l’Egypte gardons les trentenaires Coulibaly, Gana, Sadio mais contre la Côte d’Ivoire optons pour les jeunes sur toutes les lignes au départ.
Kou mere sa affaire leu.. mais deugeu nekhoul.. Krepin va porter cet appareil, ca va beaucoup te changer.
