Speaking to Record, the former national team coach (2012-2021) suggests that the Lions of Senegal, who face the Atlas Lions in the 2025 AFCON final this Sunday (7 pm GMT), should use this tactic to break down the Moroccan defense and secure their second star. "Morocco is an ambitious team, they like to dominate through possession and attacking intensity," observes the coach. "When they lose the ball, they try to counter-press. Very solid defensively, they take the risk of leaving space behind their defensive line."
Amara Traoré urges Pape Thiaw's men to exploit any opportunities that might arise: "From the moment they regain possession, Senegal must remember their good performance against England [3-1, friendly], with dynamic pressing and quick transitions, using attackers who make runs behind the defenders. They need to prioritize vertical or diagonal passes, behind Hakimi, who pushes forward a lot."
