Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson compared the Red Devils' difficult period to Liverpool's 30-year title drought. The Scot also praised the character of current manager Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United fans are far from seeing the end of their slump, and Sir Alex Ferguson predicts another 10 years without a league title for Manchester United: "They need better recruitment," said the club's most illustrious figure. Interviewed by the British public relations agency Press Box, Sir Alex Ferguson compared the Red Devils' poor run of form to rivals Liverpool's long trophy drought in the Premier League.
“I remember my own experience at Manchester United, back when Liverpool were at the peak of their powers. They were a fantastic club, having won the European Cup four times, but then it took them 30 years to win the league again (between 1990 and 2020). We're in the same situation now. It could take another 10 or even 11 years because of this cycle. We need to think about it carefully and make sure our recruitment is better than it has been,” the Scot said about the Manchester club, currently 6th and seven points off the podium in the Premier League, whose last Premier League title dates back to 2013.
Sir Alex Ferguson (formerly of Manchester United): "Watching your players get old is terrible."
The man who spent 27 years on the Old Trafford bench also praised Ruben Amorim's "good personality." Amorim himself responded to his distant predecessor's comments on Friday afternoon: "He understands football better than I do, especially English football," the Portuguese manager declared. "I don't think it will take us that long to win the league, and I don't know which manager will be here at that point. But I sincerely believe we can fight for the title in the coming years."
