Soupçons de corruption à la CAF : Vérone Mosengo-Omba sort du silence et défend son départ
In an exclusive interview with France 24, Vérone Mosengo-Omba, former secretary general of the Confederation of African Football, firmly rejected any suggestion of a forced departure. "No one pushed me out. I'm leaving because I decided to," he asserted, dismissing rumors related to the controversial AFCON final.
The governing body of African football is currently going through a turbulent period after its appeals committee decided to award Morocco the continental title, initially won on the field by Senegal. This decision continues to be controversial, pending the final verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Accused of favoring Morocco in this matter, Mosengo-Omba sought to clarify his position. According to him, his resignation, which came after five years as head of the CAF general secretariat, has no connection whatsoever with this affair. "It's simply the end of a cycle, time to turn the page," he explained.
Furthermore, the former leader also denied any influence from FIFA president Gianni Infantino, often described as a close associate. "Talking about FIFA controlling CAF through me is pure fantasy," he stated definitively.
Finally, when asked about a possible candidacy for the presidency of the Congolese Football Federation, Mosengo-Omba was measured, without ruling out the option. "If the conditions are right and I decide to run, I will transform this federation into a true model," he declared.
