Supercoupe d’Espagne : un international ghanéen dénonce vivement l’organisation en Arabie saoudite
Relocated to Saudi Arabia for several seasons, the Spanish Super Cup continues to draw criticism, despite its Final Four format now embraced by a segment of the Spanish public. While the Spanish Football Federation justifies this choice with economic reasons and the desire for international visibility, some figures in Iberian football remain fiercely opposed to the decision. This is the case for Athletic Bilbao striker Iñaki Williams.
The Ghanaian international, older brother of Nico Williams, didn't mince words when asked about holding the competition in the Middle East. A guest on the show El Chiringuito de Jugones, the 30-year-old expressed his strong disagreement, denouncing an organization he considers disconnected from the fans.
According to him, playing in a national competition outside of Spain deprives clubs of the support of their fans. "We play as if we were playing away, whereas at home, our fans are always there for us," he lamented, highlighting the logistical and human difficulties caused by this relocation.
On a personal note, Iñaki Williams also mentioned a difficult situation, as he is about to become a father in the coming days. This makes the trip even more challenging, even though he acknowledges the demands of his job as a professional footballer.
Although currently playing for Athletic Bilbao, the striker is preparing to face FC Barcelona in the Super Cup semi-final, with a potential final against Atlético de Madrid or Real Madrid in his sights. However, his message is unambiguous: he considers the decision to hold the competition in Saudi Arabia to be questionable.

Ils se prennent pour des saints mais néanmoins sont prêts à débourser des milliards pour leur propre plaisir personnel. Et nous africains nous nous entre-tuons pour leur montrer que nous sommes de fidèles croyants.
