Une légende brésilienne s’acharne sur Neymar : «Il ne sert à rien»
Former Seleção goalkeeper Émerson Leão doesn't mince his words when it comes to Brazilian star Neymar. In an interview with CNN, relayed by "AS," the legend laments the downward trajectory of the man who was once touted as Pelé's heir.
The 76-year-old Émerson Leão has not hesitated to openly criticize Neymar, questioning his commitment and professionalism. "At the beginning of his career, he was a wonderful player. I remember one day when I played against Santos. I ran into him and said, 'Listen, my boy, we're going to need you for the World Cup, take care of yourself.' And that's the only thing he doesn't do," he confided.
The former goalkeeper, who has 80 caps and participated in four World Cups (1970, 1974, 1978, 1986), believes that Neymar's decline is as much physical as mental. "The man he is off the pitch and the man he is on the pitch are linked. He hasn't stopped playing football, but today he doesn't have the same energy as before because he's not ready," he continues.
For Leão, repeated injuries and off-field controversies have irreparably slowed Neymar's progress. "He's already past the peak of his career. In his head, when he's about to start an action, he knows what he wants to do, but he's no longer capable of doing it. He no longer has the same muscular reaction, he's no longer capable of training in the same way. He's no longer the same player. He's useless," he analyzes.
