With the Africa Cup of Nations kicking off in a week, several Senegalese internationals played their final club matches before joining the national team. While Ibrahim Mbaye impressed with Paris Saint-Germain, Mamadou Sarr and Ilay Camara both left the field injured, raising concerns.
In French Ligue 1, for the 16th matchday, Ibrahim Mbaye's Paris Saint-Germain secured a 3-2 victory away to FC Metz, where Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly (who came on in the 84th minute) and Habib Diallo (who started) also feature. The 17-year-old Senegalese prodigy was instrumental in PSG's success, providing two assists.
At the Stade de la Meinau, Mamadou Sarr's RC Strasbourg were held to a 0-0 draw by Sambou Soumano's FC Lorient. Sarr, the team's captain, was substituted at halftime due to injury. In England , for Matchday 16, West Ham, with El Hadji Malick Diouf in the starting lineup, lost at home to Aston Villa (2-3). Crystal Palace, with Ismaïla Sarr returning to action, suffered a heavy defeat against Manchester City (0-3). In Italy's Serie A , for the 15th matchday, Lazio, with Boulaye Dia remaining on the bench, secured a 1-0 victory away at Parma. Abdoulaye Niakhaté Ndiaye was not in the matchday squad.
Hellas Verona , with Cheikh Tidiane Niasse in the starting lineup, caused an upset by defeating Fiorentina 2-1 in Florence. Cremonese, still without Mikayil Ngor Faye, lost 1-0 in Turin to Torino. Assane Diao's Como will play against AS Roma on Monday.
In Germany , for the 14th matchday, Bayern Munich were held to a draw by Mainz (2-2). Nicolas Jackson played the last fifteen minutes of the match.
In Belgium , during the 18th matchday, Anderlecht secured a 2-1 victory away to Sint-Truiden. Senegalese defender Ilay Camara played only 15 minutes before being forced off with an injury. The club's other Senegalese player, Moussa Ndiaye, started the match but was substituted in the 81st minute. Union Saint-Gilloise, with Ousseynou Niang coming on in the 88th minute, earned a valuable point away to Charleroi (1-1).
Finally, in the Turkish Super League , Matchday 16 was also on the schedule. Galatasaray, with Ismail Jakobs in the starting lineup, secured a comfortable 4-1 victory away to Antalyaspor. Samsunspor, with Chérif Ndiaye in the starting eleven, suffered a 2-0 home defeat against İstanbul Başakşehir.
