Xavier Barret sur la CAN- 2025 : « Le concurrent direct du Maroc (pour le sacre final) c’est le Sénégal »
The Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 kicks off in less than two hours in the Kingdom of Morocco. The Atlas Lions will face the Comoros Coelacanths in the opening match. They will be eager to start their campaign with a victory. The objective for Achraf Hakimi and his teammates is clear: to win this 35th edition of the AFCON.
Like most sports journalists, Xavier Barret believes that Morocco has the resources to achieve its ambitions. Senegal is also a serious contender for the title, according to the commentator for "Radio Foot Internationale".
"They hadn't won against the DRC in Dakar, and yet they went and won in Kinshasa."
The man also stated that "Morocco's direct competitor (for the final title) is Senegal." According to him, Pape Thiaw's team has "proven that they are capable of performing well against top-level international teams." He cited Senegal's victories against England at Wembley and against Vinicius Jr.'s Brazil.
The French journalist adds to his argument the confidence and maturity shown by the Lions during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. "They hadn't won against the DRC in Dakar, and they went on to win in Kinshasa, despite being down 2-0. So, a lot of composure, experience, and young players coming through. A smooth renewal," observes Xavier Barret.
