Bembou : le GARSI démantèle un important site d’orpaillage clandestin à Moussala.
Operations to combat illegal mining continue intensely in the Kédougou region. This Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at around 8 a.m., the GARSI (Rapid Action Surveillance and Intervention Group) detachment based in Moussala conducted a decisive operation against an illegal gold mining site located in the bush near the village of Moussala, in the commune of Bembou.
According to information gathered on site, this operation was conducted as part of a security patrol aimed at curbing illegal gold mining, a phenomenon that continues to threaten the environment, the safety of the population and the local economy.
During the raid, GARSI agents completely dismantled the illegal mining site and seized a significant quantity of equipment used for clandestine mining activities. The haul included 17 generators, 12 jackhammers, and 2 solar panels.
This new operation demonstrates the strengthening of surveillance in sensitive gold mining areas, particularly in the Bembou sector, which often faces a resurgence of illegal gold mining.
Authorities indicate that an investigation is currently underway to identify the operators involved and to determine responsibilities.
Through this intervention, the gendarmerie reaffirms its determination to relentlessly combat the clandestine exploitation of natural resources and to preserve stability in this strategic area of southeastern Senegal.
