Colonel El Oumar Faye : Trajectoire d'un officier supérieur aux commandes de la Zone militaire N⁰7
Coming from the 18th class of the National School of Active Officers of Thiès (1998-2000), Colonel El Hadji Oumar Faye, is the new Commander of Military Zone No. 7. A senior officer in the Senegalese army, he holds a general university studies diploma in Mathematics (1997) and a master's degree in Strategy, Defense, Security, Conflict and Disaster Management, obtained at the University of Yaoundé 2 of SOA in 2017.
His military career, punctuated by high-level training in Senegal and abroad, demonstrates solid expertise in command and operational planning. He notably attended the Infantry Application Course and the Future Unit Commanders Course at the Infantry Application School (EAI) in Thiès, the Basic Command and Staff Course in Canada, the Staff Course in Tunisia, as well as the International Advanced War Course. These training courses led to the main qualifications of the officer's career, including the 2nd Degree Higher Military Education Certificate.
Colonel Faye has held several positions of responsibility, both in combat units and in command structures. He successively served as section leader, company commander, and then aide-de-camp to the Minister of the Armed Forces. He then served in the Training Management Division (DGF/EMGA) as head of the Training Organization Office, before being successively assigned to the 24th Reconnaissance and Support Battalion (BRA) in Tambacounda and to the 5th Infantry Battalion as head of the Operations-Instruction Office (BOI).
From 2017 to 2019, he commanded the 5th Infantry Battalion of Ziguinchor, then was appointed Chief of Division at the Army General Staff. He then served as a liaison officer at the United Nations Headquarters in New York (2020-2023) before heading the National School for Active Non-Commissioned Officers (ENSOA) in Kaolack (2023-2025).
Since July 1, 2025, Colonel El Hadji Oumar Faye has commanded Military Zone No. 7.
Internationally, Colonel Faye has participated in several external operations as part of United Nations and African Union peacekeeping missions. He was deployed successively to the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC), Sudan (AMIS), Darfur (UNAMID) and Mali (MINUSMA). These experiences have given him proven expertise in the conduct of joint operations, multinational coordination and strategic planning in crisis contexts.
Decorated with the medals of recognition of the MONUC, AMIS, MINUAD and MINUSMA missions, as well as the Army Medal of Honor, Colonel El Hadji Oumar Faye embodies the example of a seasoned military leader, combining competence, rigor and dedication in the service of the Nation.
