Séance de sensibilisation de l'Armée de l'air sénégalaise sur l'usage réglementé des drones, UCAO-ISAE Thiès

The use of drones is expanding significantly in Senegal, presenting important technological opportunities while also raising growing concerns about privacy and public safety. In response to this increasing use, the Senegalese Air Force organized an awareness session for students at UCAO-ISAE (Higher Institute of Business Administration) this Tuesday in Thiès. This initiative aims to prepare future professionals for the responsible and compliant use of these devices.

During the meeting, Captain Fara Lindor Diop, Director of the Research and Technology Center, emphasized the importance of rigorous training before any takeoff. He reiterated that drone operation is not limited to simple technical handling, but requires a strict understanding of the legal framework, particularly regarding the capture of images without prior authorization. Captain Diop lamented that many users purchase a device before even researching the applicable regulations, explaining that drones are classified into three categories, with requirements becoming more stringent depending on their weight and capabilities.

The workshop also addressed the prospects for technological innovation within the armed forces. Future command systems increasingly incorporate artificial intelligence, with voice command systems currently under development. These advancements demonstrate Senegal's commitment to remaining at the forefront of modern digital tools.

For his part, Father Albert Sène, Director of ISAE Thiès, praised this fruitful collaboration with the army. He emphasized the students' clear interest in these tools, which are now being used in strategic sectors such as agriculture, the environment, surveillance, and defense. He believes this workshop is a major opportunity for young people to acquire essential practical knowledge in a context of rapid technological development.
