Hécatombe routière à Sédhiou : Le CRD et les « Jakartamen » s'unissent pour stopper le carnage
Faced with the explosion of road fatalities involving motorcycle taxis, the Amicale du Comité Régional de Développement (CRD) has launched an unprecedented awareness campaign in the region.
In Sédhiou, the situation is alarming: Jakarta motorcycle accidents claim lives daily, primarily among young people. Beyond the human tragedy, these accidents weigh heavily on the local economy. To break this cycle of road violence, the Sédhiou Regional Development Council (CRD) has taken the initiative by organizing three days of intensive mobilization.
This initiative was conducted in close collaboration with the Defense and Security Forces, bus station officials, and motorcycle taxi drivers' associations. The program focused on a community-based strategy, prioritizing direct interventions at transport stops and in high-risk areas identified by the authorities.
During these days, capacity-building sessions were provided to drivers. The training focused on mastering the highway code and adopting good driving practices, all supported by a wide-ranging broadcast of awareness videos throughout the week.
The transport operators, now aware of the safety issues, have also advocated for this technical support to be made permanent in order to permanently instill these survival skills. To mark the end of this event in a spirit of camaraderie, a symbolic football match pitted the CRD team against the motorcyclists, thus sealing a pact for life on the roads of Sédhiou.
