Candidature de Macky Sall à l’ONU : ce que Serigne Mountakha a dit à la Convergence citoyenne
As part of their tour of religious centers, a delegation of about twenty members of the Citizens' Convergence was received this Monday by the Caliph General of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Bassirou Mbacké, in Touba. The purpose of the visit was to obtain the religious leader's prayers in support of former President Macky Sall's candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Speaking to the press after the hearing, former liberal MP Babacar Gaye, spokesperson for the delegation, explained the meaning of this approach: "Touba is a place of prayer, devotion, and return to God in spirituality. It is an obligatory step for any Senegalese citizen who is naturally considering a mission, an activity, or a project."
He emphasized the importance of the issue: "This is about choosing, for the next five years, the global citizen who will lead the United Nations. Macky Sall being a candidate, a Senegalese candidate, an African candidate, a representative of sub-Saharan Africa, a man of consensus and dialogue, son and disciple of Serigne Mountakha, it was perfectly natural that we should convey his voice to the marabout, so that he might pray for him and naturally intercede on his behalf."
A message of thanks from Macky Sall
The delegation, which according to Babacar Gaye represents the 1,200 members who joined the Citizen Convergence, also conveyed a personal message from the former head of state to the caliph: “We conveyed to the general caliph of the Mourides the message of thanks from Macky Sall, his son, his disciple. He did not come to ask the caliph to pray for him because he is convinced that Serigne Mountakha Bassirou never ceases to pray for him.”
Babacar Gaye clarified: "For Macky Sall, it wasn't a question of coming to ask for prayers for a victory, but rather to thank the Caliph General for everything he does for him, everything he has done for him, and everything he will do for him."
"He believes, as you have all witnessed, that this quest for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations should be for the good of him and of humanity, and may God grant that it be so. On the other hand, if God decides otherwise, may He also grant that it be for the good of humanity," he reports.
For his part, Serigne Mountakha Bassirou Mbacké responded to the delegation with wisdom and serenity: “I have never stopped praying for Macky Sall. I entrusted him to Serigne Touba and I have not changed my mind. We are believers. I have only prayer as a weapon. But it is God Almighty who decides. If this position of UN Secretary-General is good for him and for humanity, may God grant him it. If God has something better in store for him, may God grant it to him.”
