Crise à l’UCAD : Le retour amer des étudiants de Mbour après la fermeture du campus
The violence at the university forced students from Mbour to flee the campus. Crammed onto an overcrowded bus, many rushed back to their city, while others, without transportation, remained stranded. This forced departure followed the previous day's bloody clashes and the authorities' drastic decision to close the university campus.
Faced with escalating tensions, the Mbour Students' Association (AMEEM) had to take action. An emergency repatriation caravan was organized with the support of the "Mbour Justice" movement to extract students from a situation that had become unstable and dangerous.
For Serigne Khadim Ndiaye, secretary general of the Amicale, the events experienced by his comrades are unacceptable.
“We did not expect such behavior from the authorities. The way the students were treated is deplorable and inhumane. We witnessed monstrous scenes: police officers treated the students like savages. We were barricaded all day, without the possibility of eating. Going outside meant risking arrest,” he bitterly denounced.
The feeling of a political "betrayal"
According to the student representative, demands for the payment of scholarships have been violently repressed, even though they constitute fundamental rights. The Secretary General of AMEEM also points to a painful paradigm shift: “Yesterday, we fought to defend a politician. Today, we are fighting for our rights. Scholarships are a right. Trying to deprive us of them can only fuel the anger and revolt of all students,” he insists.
This feeling of disappointment is shared by student Sokhna Faty Dieng. Very disappointed by the fate of her comrades, she recalls that many of them had "given their heart and soul" to the advent of the current regime, before finding themselves today facing repression.
