Dalifort‑Foirail : Un nouveau commissariat pour tourner la page de l’insécurité

The Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé, inaugurated the Dalifort-Foirail district police station on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in the presence of the Director General of the National Police, Mame Seydou Ndour, as well as administrative, military, religious authorities and local elected officials.

The ceremony, marked by the symbolic cutting of the ribbon, celebrates the commissioning of a modern infrastructure intended to strengthen local security in this municipality in the department of Pikine, which has faced a resurgence of criminal acts in recent months.

A response to persistent insecurity

The opening of this police station comes in a tense security context. Between October 31, 2025 and January 21, 2026, seven burglaries were recorded in Dalifort-Foirail, according to Commissioner Ismaïla GouDiaby, head of Urban Security at the central police station in Dakar.

During this period, organized groups of criminals, sometimes consisting of ten or more individuals armed with machetes, cutlasses, and crowbars, terrorized the residents. For the local population, the opening of this new police station is therefore a welcome relief.

A municipality at the heart of economic activity

Speaking at the event, the mayor of the commune of Dalifort Forail, Mamadou Mbengue, emphasized the strategic importance of the infrastructure.

According to him, Dalifort-Foirail concentrates major economic hubs, a small ruminant park, a central fish market, an industrial zone and transport platforms generating significant flows of people and goods.

"The commissioning of this police station will improve the prevention and fight against crime, protect people and property and sustainably strengthen trust between the population and the security forces," he said, welcoming the commitment of the State and the municipal council to the realization of the project.

The mayor also pleaded for additional support to finalize the second phase of the works, including the construction of staff accommodation and the acquisition of modern equipment.

The government is banking on community policing

For the Minister of the Interior, this inauguration marks "an important step in strengthening the security network" and is part of the national strategy aimed at bringing security forces closer to citizens.

He recalled that the municipality of Dalifort Forail, characterized by a high population density and rapid urbanization, faces multiple security challenges: urban crime, illicit trafficking, social tensions and road insecurity.

"This police station is designed to offer the population an adequate response to their legitimate aspirations for optimal security," said Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé, calling for close collaboration between citizens, local authorities and defense and security forces.

The minister also stressed the role of the population in prevention, inviting residents to report any suspicious behavior and to get involved in community initiatives.

A symbol of authority and public service

Beyond its operational role, the Dalifort-Foirail police station aims to be a tool for accessing administrative services and a symbol of the rapprochement between the State and citizens.

The authorities hope that it will help to establish a lasting climate of trust and improve the quality of public service in this busy area.

Bamba Cissé took the opportunity to announce the continuation of the national program to modernize security infrastructure, with other inaugurations planned across the country.

A new step for local security

With this infrastructure, Dalifort-Foirail has taken a significant step forward in the fight against crime and the strengthening of community policing. The challenge now is to translate this increased presence on the ground into a tangible improvement in the public's sense of security.
