Éducation : DP World investit plus de 153 millions FCFA pour des « Classes de l’Espoir »

The DP World Foundation has taken another step in its commitment to education in Senegal by funding the renovation of three schools in the municipalities of Diass, Yenne and Popenguine-Ndayane.

The total investment for these works amounts to more than 153 million FCFA.

The municipalities concerned officially took possession of the newly renovated buildings. In addition to the work, school kits worth 20,896,000 FCFA were distributed to the students.

The "Back to School – Classes of Hope" project

This initiative is part of the "Back to School - Classes of Hope" project, designed to offer children a modern, safe and stimulating learning environment.

Ms. Cissé Mame Yacine Seck Diop, Regional Sustainable Development Manager for sub-Saharan Africa on behalf of the DP World Foundation, recalled that education is one of the strategic pillars of the company's philanthropic action.

She stated: “School is not simply a place: it is a refuge, a promise, a springboard. These renovated and rebuilt classrooms are spaces where hope can be born… These schools are now classrooms of hope.” She reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to providing every child, regardless of their background, with equitable access to quality education.

Eco-friendly libraries and furniture

In addition to the classroom renovation work, DP World Dakar and the Port of Ndayane project made an additional contribution of 53,840,460 FCFA, enabling notable innovations: the creation of school libraries in the three establishments, the provision of 300 recycled plastic desks and benches, praised for their ecological nature, and the provision of furniture for teachers.

The mayor of Diass, Mamadou Dione, praised the environmentally friendly nature of the innovation, calling it "a true lesson in sustainable development." The mayors present unanimously commended DP World's approach, which focused on consultation and targeted support for the real needs of schools.

Mamadou Mansour Thiandoum, mayor of Popenguine-Ndayane, expressed his gratitude and stressed that his municipality is actively preparing young people for future opportunities, notably by having recently trained 100 young people to obtain a driver's license.

In conclusion, the DP World Foundation reaffirmed its ambition to contribute to a Senegal where education, innovation and solidarity are the foundations of sustainable development.
