Fouilles corporelles en prison : Le ministre de la Justice défend la pratique et annonce l’acquisition de scanner
Questioned in the National Assembly by MP Guy Marius Sagna on the body searches imposed on prisoners, Justice Minister Ousmane Diagne provided firm clarifications. He justified this practice as a security measure provided for in Article 135 of Decree No. 2001-363 of May 4, 2001, which stipulates that all prisoners must be searched upon entering prison and upon each release for an investigation or hearing.
While emphasizing the importance of preserving the dignity of prisoners, the minister announced a significant step forward: "As part of the 2026 budget, the Minister of the Budget has authorized us to acquire scanners." This equipment will strengthen security while reducing the use of intrusive body searches.
