Inondations à Touba : Ousmane Sonko débloque 2,5 milliards F CFA pour le plan d'urgence
Faced with recurring flooding affecting the holy city of Touba, the Senegalese government has decided to strengthen its response efforts. An exceptional budget of 2.5 billion CFA francs has been allocated for this purpose.
This Friday, September 19, 2025, the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, concluded his 48-hour visit to the Diourbel region, as part of the emergency action plan implemented by the authorities. This field visit aimed to concretely assess the impact of the measures already deployed and to identify the urgent needs of the affected populations. The tour was structured around several strategic stages, providing a comprehensive overview of the situation in different neighborhoods of Touba.
In Déég Dakhar (Guédé Bousso), in this particularly affected area, the population expressed a pressing need: the installation of drainage pipes to facilitate the rapid flow of rainwater.
In Nguiranène, the minister praised the remarkable work of the national fire brigade, which has been mobilized since the first rains to contain the floods. This recognition underscores the importance of coordination between the various response forces in managing this crisis.
In Touba Féto, the situation is particularly worrying, in this neighborhood where rainwater is seriously disrupting the operation of the local borehole. This technical failure exacerbates the difficulties of supplying drinking water to the population, creating a vicious circle where excess rainwater compromises access to drinking water.
The final leg of the tour took the minister to temporary shelters set up by the Touba Ca Kanam organization. Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Dièye expressed his satisfaction with this exemplary civic initiative and reaffirmed his full willingness to support those affected during this difficult time.
Received by the Caliph General of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation made a major announcement that demonstrates the priority given by the government to this crisis. On the express instruction of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, an exceptional envelope of 2.5 billion CFA francs was released to strengthen the emergency action plan.
"We have achieved results, but much remains to be done. The State will continue to carry out structural projects to provide sustainable solutions," the minister declared.
