JOJ Dakar-2026 : One Year To Go, le compte à rebours lancé le 31 octobre 2025
October 31, 2025, will be a symbolic date for African and global sport. On that day, Senegal will be one year away from hosting the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). On this occasion, known in Olympic jargon as "One Year to Go," the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (YOGOC) will organize a series of events to mark the start of the official countdown.
The highlight of this commemorative event will be the launch of the official mascot, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Senegal. This highlight will be accompanied by the symbolic start of the countdown.
But that's not all. From November 4 to 9, Dakar will vibrate to the rhythm of the fourth and final edition of the Dakar en Jeux festival, a cultural and sporting event already firmly rooted in the dynamics of the YOG. Open days for National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will also be organized to allow these delegations to better understand the environment of the future Games.
"Senegal on the right track"
Asked about this decisive step, Ibrahima Wade, YOGOC coordinator, gave a realistic assessment of the situation. "We recently held a coordination meeting with the IOC. What emerged is that Dakar is on the right track. I can't say we are 100% ready, but we are anticipating all aspects," he announced at a press conference this Friday.
Contrary to a perception often limited to sports infrastructure, Wade underlines the scale of the challenge. "A competition like this is not just about sports infrastructure. It's an entire ecosystem, namely logistics, reception, and security, that we must master. And at each stage, the IOC validates our progress with confidence," he adds.
A futsal tournament will also be held on this occasion, from September 6 to 9. The competition will feature Senegal, Brazil, Morocco, and Portugal on the men's side. The women's side will feature Senegal, Guinea, Mauritania, and Namibia.

C'est une occasion à ne surtout pas rater. Il faut mobiliser tous les sénégalais à s'approprier de cet événement.
Restons vigilants et soutenons nos athlètes.
