The governor of Diourbel, Ibrahima Fall, presided over a regional development council (CRD) meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, dedicated to preparations for the Night of Destiny, commonly known as Laylatul Qadar. Serigne Cheikh Abdou Lahad Mbacké Gaïndé Fatma, president of the organizing committee for this major religious event, celebrated annually by the family of Sokhna Maï Mbacké under the guidance of the Caliph Serigne Makhfouz Mbacké, was also present.
At the end of the meeting, the governor gave a comprehensive overview of the commitments made by the various state services.
On the health front, he announced the strengthening of the city's medical system with the establishment of five advanced medical posts equipped with medicines and ambulances, in order to prepare for any eventuality. The regional hygiene brigade will also carry out disinfection operations in various establishments and ensure the quality of products placed on the market.
Regarding the cleanup, he indicated that March 6, 2026, has been chosen as a major cleanup day. Sonaged, in collaboration with the Touba-Mosquée municipality and the organizing committee, will clean the various streets of Touba's city center. In the water and energy sector, the plan is to restore power to the city center, particularly the HLM neighborhood, to eliminate power outages, to position a generator as a backup, and to improve public lighting.
On the security front, the governor specified that the defense and security forces will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of people and property before, during and after the event.
The CRD was also an opportunity for participants to request prayers for the stability and prosperity of Senegal, as well as for the success of the mission of the President of the Republic and his Prime Minister.
The 28th edition, an event open to the entire Islamic Ummah
For his part, Serigne Cheikh Abdou Lahad Mbacké Gaïndé Fatma recalled that this year marks the 28th edition of Laylatoul Qadar since the passing of Sokhna Maï Mbacké, who had celebrated this sacred night for nearly 50 years, at the behest of Serigne Fallou Mbacké. He expressed his confidence that the commitments made would be honored, drawing on the experience of previous editions, and reiterated the organizing committee's thanks to the Governor of Diourbel, the entire Regional Development Council (CRD), the highest authorities of the country, and the Touba City Hall.
The chairman of the organizing committee also announced that this edition will, as in the past, have a strong scientific focus, with conferences that started ten days before Laylatoul Qadar and will continue until the day itself. These conferences will cover various themes such as tolerance in Sufi thought or Mouridism from yesterday to today, and will be led by eminent, hand-picked scientific personalities.
Serigne Cheikh Abdou Lahad Mbacké Gaïndé Fatma emphasized that Laylatoul Qadar belongs to the entire Islamic Ummah, not just the Mouride community, as this night is the night of the Holy Quran, which belongs to all believers. He stressed that Sokhna Maï Mbacké was considered by the entire community as their mother, and that this tradition is perpetuated today by Serigne Makhfouz Mbacké and the entire family.
He thus launched a solemn appeal to the entire Islamic Ummah to come and celebrate this blessed night together in Touba.
He concluded by stating that all the Kamil daaras and daaras in Senegal have already begun reciting the Holy Quran, with tens of thousands of copies recited up to the big day.
Laylatoul Qadar will be celebrated on March 12th in Touba.
