« Libérez Farba ! » : Marche et dénonciation pour la libération de Farba Ngom, la santé au cœur du débat
Dakar, Senegal – Hundreds of protesters took to the streets this Saturday, from Liberté 6 to the Jet d'Eau in Dakar, to demand the release of deputy mayor Farba Ngom. Imprisoned since February as part of judicial investigations involving more than 120 billion CFA francs, his supporters denounce his detention as arbitrary.
The march, organized by her political and civic supporters, took place under the resounding slogan: "Free Farba, justice is not a weapon!"
The mood was calm but determined. The procession, marked by red flags and placards calling for justice, demanded an end to the prosecution, emphasizing the parliamentarian's deteriorating health.
Several MPs participated in the demonstration, denouncing a situation they consider untenable. Pape Malick Ndour denounced "arbitrary and unjust detention" and welcomed "a historic mobilization for a political prisoner." MP Abdou Mbow emphasized: "Farba Ngom's state of health no longer justifies his continued detention. We call for his immediate release."
Farba Ngom is facing two charges related to alleged financial misconduct. His lawyers have filed several requests for bail on medical grounds, also denouncing "serious violations of the rights of the defense."
Despite the scale of this Saturday's mobilization, no official response has yet been given by the judicial authorities or the government.
Farba Ngom's relatives, who have announced that they will not let up the pressure, promise further civic actions in the coming days, both in Dakar and in Fouta. For the protesters, this march is only the beginning of a fight for respect for fundamental rights.
