Tensions au sommet de l’État : Mamadou Goumbala charge Ousmane Sonko à Keur Gorgui
The political climate continues to cause turmoil within the majority. During a rally organized in the Keur Gorgui district, Mamadou Goumba, presented as a member of the elders of the Pastef party, strongly attacked Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, whom he considers to be "the real problem" at the top of the State.
Addressing the activists and supporters present, Mamadou Goumbala denounced what he called the ambiguous attitude of the head of government towards President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. "President Ousmane Sonko is the real problem. Let's not kid ourselves. He allows his associates to insult President Diomaye with impunity. He himself sometimes makes public statements against the head of state. This is not normal in a country that respects itself," he declared.
Continuing his remarks, Mamadou Goumbala reiterated that, despite Ousmane Sonko's role in Bassirou Diomaye Faye's rise to power, the head of state remains, in his view, the sole holder of institutional authority. "Whatever his contribution to the president's appointment, it must be understood that it is the head of state who holds the power and freely chooses his inner circle," he asserted, before adding that the president could legitimately distance himself from any figure deemed a liability.
In a particularly direct tone, the Pastef party elder stated that the coexistence of two strong figures at the top of the executive branch could not last indefinitely. "Two leaders cannot be at the top, especially when one refuses to obey," he declared.
Mamadou Goumba also called on political leaders to refocus their priorities on the concerns of the Senegalese people, particularly the high cost of living and security issues in a regional context marked by several hotspots of tension. "People are increasingly concerned about the cost of living and the security of the country, especially with the ring of fire surrounding the sub-region," he insisted, also criticizing "the repeated political gatherings, congresses, and debates."
